Remote blogging by the firepit

It's been quite the mixed summer in Edmonton as far as the weather goes, but there's no complaining about the weather right now. It's been a beautiful week in Edmonton - hot and sunny - and next week promises to be more of the same.

Right now I'm sitting by our backyard firepit getting ready to roast hotdogs for supper. It's 29 outside, and not a cloud in the sky. Life is good!

This is what my brother Dean gets for moving to Halifax!

Hurricane Kyle targets US-Canada borderline
Canada posted a hurricane watch and tropical storm warnings in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick provinces, and a hurricane watch was also in effect along the coast of the northeastern US state of Maine.

Well, I'm sure he'll find some way to get some laughs out of it.

Meanwhile, I'll just enjoy living in a landlocked province utterly devoid of humidity.

Wall-E and weather

Two things on Sunday afternoon:
  • I took the family to see Wall-E this afternoon, and it was great. This might be Pixar's first "adult" film in the sense that it was a far more simple, yet sophisticated, story than they usually do. It was a sad comedy if that makes any sense. Excellent movie.
  • My older daughter got 15 minutes of fame today when her video of hail pouring down on our deck made the Weather Network this morning. Good for her!

Glorious heat!

I checked the weather at 3 p.m. today and it was 26 degrees in Edmonton, which makes it the hottest day, so far, of 2008.

Given the winters we have, you will never hear me complaining about the heat. I'm going to go for a nice, long walk tonight and enjoy the outdoors.

Enough with the snow!

Here's two pictures.

One shows our backyard a week ago when it was 24 C outside.

The second shows our backyard this morning, after a day and night of snow. It's -18 with the windchill.

Depressing, isn't it?

Last Sunday, it hit 24 C.

This morning, the windchill is -19 C.

Global warming? Anyone?

Welcome to Edmonton II

Yesterday, it hit 24. As in, degrees Celsius. I went out for a 70-minute, four-mile walk and got sunburned on my arms.

Today at 12:10 p.m., I looked out my office window and it was snowing. Big-fluffy-white-flakes snowing.

Welcome to Edmonton!

Last Saturday, we woke up to a huge blanket of fresh snow.

One week later, it's plus 20.
