POD's Anything Right - Same chorus as TFK's Fire It Up?

My friend Jim comments on my previous post that the chorus to TFK's Fire It Up sounds an awful lot like POD's Anything Right.

So here's POD's song. What do you think? (Chorus starts at 1:20)

And now for something completely different

From the file, "Things you probably didn't know about me", I'm a HUGE Huey Lewis and the News fan. I dusted off my copy of Live at 25 the other day, and fell in love with the band all over again. Great stuff.

Go ahead, laugh. I don't care.

The House Hippo ad

I love this ad. Not because it reminds us that not everything we see on TV is real, but because it makes me realize that tiny hippos would be the cutest pets ever! Seriously .... if any of you mad scientists out there can make me a tiny hippo for a pet, I'd love to get one.

This makes my list of "The Most Disturbing Things I've Ever Seen"

Thanks to my 15-year-old daughter for showing this to me. Now I get to make fun of it.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON EDIT: I'm not sure what's funnier - the fact that the video was one of the Jonas Brothers dancing (in high heels, no less) to Beyonce's "Single Ladies" or that less than 24 hours later, not only has the video been removed for copyright violation, the Official Jonas Brothers YouTube Channel has been suspended. Those 500,000+ subscribers must be pretty upset.

SUNDAY MORNING EDIT: Video is back, so I guess things got worked out. No, I'm not going to go investigate this.

YouTube goes widescreen!

YouTube Embraces Widescreen Paves the Way for Hollywood Features - Webmonkey
As we pointed out last week, YouTube is now offering HD quality video on select movies. But one of the hallmarks of HD video is the widescreen aspect ratio (16:9 rather than 4:3) and now the YouTube site has been updated so that all video is now displayed in a new widescreen player.

As the YouTube blog notes, this means that the vast majority of videos on the site — which were uploaded as 4:3 — are now displayed with black bars on the sides (the empty space not used by 4:3 videos).

Two things:

1) Now, all I need is a free video editor that will actually let me edit the widescreen video that my digicam will let me shoot ... except I don't shoot in widescreen because I can't edit it.

2) This puts YouTube ahead of the WWE in terms of providing me with easily-accessible widescreen content. Not that I'm bitter.

Pepsi Blue Hawaii - Only in Japan

Pepsi: Get Your Drink On With Pepsi Blue Hawaii

Click the link for a pretty funny video review of Pepsi Blue Hawaii, which is a pineapple-lemon flavoured Pepsi that is, sadly, only available in Japan.

I say sadly, despite the fact that the reviewers didn't care for it that much, because I like colas, I like lemon-flavoured colas, and I like pineapple, so I figure Pepsi Blue Hawaii would rule!

If Pepsi would like to send me some free samples of Blue Hawaii, I promise to write a much more positive review, despite the fact that, you know, I'm Canadian and my opinion probably wouldn't influence anyone in Japan to drink it anyway.

High-ranking Pepsi executives can contact me via e-mail.

For the past couple of springs, our backyard has played host to a pair of Hungarian Partridges. Last year, the two of them nested in our firepit for a few weeks as the snow melted, before disappearing for the summer. This morning, there were three of them exploring our backyard.

You are my sunshine!

Our penultimate Hawaii video. Nicole shot this on her camera, as she didn't want to learn to play the ukulele. It was taken at the Polynesian Cultural Center.

Funny side note: this is our most-viewed Hawaii video on YouTube, and someone awarded it the dreaded one-star (Poor) rating.

Surfing in Hawaii!

It's Sunday morning, it's cold. Time for another visit to Hawaii!

This was the first Hawaii video I put together a few months ago when I started playing around with our video editing software. It's a 30-second clip edited down from about 3 minutes of footage. I thought it turned out pretty good. Make sure you stay until the end of the credits.

I love this video for several reasons:
  • One of the things Nicole absolutely wanted to do in Hawaii was surfing. For her, this was a dream come true. It was a great thrill as a parent to watch her have so much fun.
  • Michelle did not want to go surfing, but we cajoled her into doing it, and she was so happy afterwards. This was an enormous step for her because she was utterly intimidated by the prospect of surfing, but sucked it up, took the lessons, and had a blast.
Basically, this was a chance to watch my kids do something amazing, and stand back and take it all in. What a joy!

Oooohhh .... I love turtles

Another Hawaii video. This one I'm posting directly, as the YouTube version is way too pixelated and I'm not happy with it in that form.

This is a video of Green Sea Turtles, which was taken on the North Shore of Oahu. There was a spot where about 50 Green Sea Turtles would come every day to sun themselves and eat. This site is well known in Hawaii, but it isn't advertised very much. If you know about it, great, and if you don't, it's just an unmarked spot on a beach near the highway that you'll drive by before you even know you've missed it. I can't remember how my wife discovered its existence, but good thing she did, as we stopped here twice during our trip, and it was a fantastic experience. The kids loved it.

Interested observers were allowed to go in the water to swim and snorkel with them, as long as we didn't touch or crowd them. (The turtles were allowed to touch or crowd us, however.)
