And how was your night?

I was woken up at 2 o'clock this morning by the Edmonton police helicopter hovering over our house, shining its spotlight into a yard several doors down, where police were searching a backyard with flashlights. I have no idea what that was about.

Needless to say, I'm a bit tired this morning.

Ric Flair coming to Edmonton

Apparently, Ric Flair is coming to Edmonton in February. Ticket information is here.

I have to admit, I found out about this reading the stats for my blog, which contained a number of search strings looking for info on Ric Flair coming to Edmonton.

And judging from the ticket prices, I'm not likely to be going.

Glorious heat!

I checked the weather at 3 p.m. today and it was 26 degrees in Edmonton, which makes it the hottest day, so far, of 2008.

Given the winters we have, you will never hear me complaining about the heat. I'm going to go for a nice, long walk tonight and enjoy the outdoors.

Choppers!

My younger daughter and I were out at Hawrelak Park today, and the Edmonton and RCMP police helicopters were out, along with the STARS Air Ambulance, and a whole bunch of other emergency responder kind of stuff. It was "emergency preparedness" day or something - fire trucks, HazMat units, ambulances, tanks ... all kinds of things.

Apologies for the crappy picture quality, but my wife has our real camera in Banff this weekend on a band trip with my older daughter. (And sorry about the thumb.)

Meanwhile, the younger daughter was thrilled to see helicopters in person.

While at the park, I also got the chance to chat with Tory MP Rahim Jaffer and Edmonton Mayor Steve Mandel. Good times!

Have I mentioned that it snowed?

Those poor birds

The poor Hungarian Partridges who have been living in our backyard don't seem terribly impressed by our blizzard.

Enough with the snow!

Here's two pictures.

One shows our backyard a week ago when it was 24 C outside.

The second shows our backyard this morning, after a day and night of snow. It's -18 with the windchill.

Depressing, isn't it?

Welcome to Edmonton II

Yesterday, it hit 24. As in, degrees Celsius. I went out for a 70-minute, four-mile walk and got sunburned on my arms.

Today at 12:10 p.m., I looked out my office window and it was snowing. Big-fluffy-white-flakes snowing.

Last Saturday, we woke up to a huge blanket of fresh snow.

One week later, it's plus 20.
